Part 3 can be overwhelming. What does it cover? Where do I find the details I need? Does it apply to my project?

The goal of this self-guided Part 3 Fundamentals course is to build your familiarity with Part 3 of the Building Code so that you can feel confident and comfortable in its application. We cover the content of each section of Part 3, and provide you with resources and tips to ensure that you can successfully identify and apply the sections that are relevant to your project.

Is this course for me?

This course is geared towards:

  • Architects and design teams who need a refresher

  • Anyone new to Part 3 design or enforcement

  • Systems designers - structural, mechanical, electrical - who would like to understand the code as a whole to know where architectural features may impact their designs

  • Anyone who interacts regularly with building officials and wants to understand what they're asking for

Here's What our Students are Saying

  • Chance Duperreault, Fire Inspector

“The Fundamentals Course will benefit all ranges of knowledge base from the code guru to the rookie two days on the job. Even if you know it all, this course will highlight areas of the Building Code you forgot about.”

  • Lacey De Gennaro, Building Official

"The Part 3 Fundamentals course of the Kilo Lima Code School was the last little push I needed to successfully pass my Building Official’s Class 3 exam. Walking through the code with Kelsey gave me the understanding and confidence I needed to push myself further."

  • Joyce Reid Troost, Architect AIBC

"The code is like reading Shakespeare, I think I get it and then I realize I got lost in the words. The course focuses on the concepts behind the building code to create a foundation allowing me to better decode. All the examples enable a graphic oriented person to better understand the code's intentions."
