Precision: Accessibility in the Built Environment
It's not just about ramps and elevators
This 1.25hr Precision Course is an introduction to Accessibility in the Built Environment, focusing on how accessibility compliance often doesn’t equal real life accessibility needs.
A better understanding of accessibility in the built environment and how it is more than ramps and elevators or wheelchair access.
Accessibility isn’t a check list or add on item, but an important scope to be included from concept and design, through construction and commissioning/set up. It’s important and how the work continues into occupancy, operations and maintenance.
Knowledge of using the Barrier-free Design Provisions from CSA B651 ‘Accessible design for the built environment’ as referenced in NBC 3.8 Accessibility.
Awareness of how complying with the NBC or other legislation for barrier-free / accessible requirements are a minimum and even with a building permit, may not meet legislated human rights codes which are often overlooked.
